MANILA, Philippines – Everything is running smoothly in Manny Pacquiao’s training camp as far as coach Freddie Roach is concerned.
So confident is Roach about the Filipino superstar’s chances against Shane Mosley on May 7 that he gave a bold prediction.
“I’d say he’ll stop him in six, seven rounds,” the esteemed coach told Ring.tv’s Michael Rosenthal.
Roach said this will be Pacquiao’s main goal against Mosley, who has never been knocked out or stopped in a fight in his 18 years as a professional boxer.
“That’s the prize, to be the first to stop him, to show the world how much better we are than anyone else. That’s our goal,” said the American trainer.
Pacquiao will be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight belt against Mosley in Las Vegas.
Roach said that unlike in their training for the Antonio Margarito fight, Pacquiao is very focused in his preparations for the Mosley bout.
“We’re not taking this guy (Mosley) lightly,” he said. “We’re taking him seriously. We’re back here in L.A. He sparred yesterday, six rounds with Karim Mayfield and Shawn Porter, two good sparring partners. And Manny looked very good.
“I don’t see Shane having a chance,” he added.
