Regine Velasquez confirms pregnancy rumors

(Updated 4:42 p.m.) After weeks of speculation, Kapuso singer-actress Regine Velasquez-Alcasid confirmed that she is indeed pregnant.

"Alam po namin na marami na kayong naririnig pero siyempre maganda na sa amin mismo manggaling kung ano na talaga [ang] nangyayari. Totoo po na (We know that you have heard a lot but it's better that you hear about what's happening from us. It's true that) Ogie and I are going to have a baby," Velasquez said during a taped interview aired over GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Monday.

In separate report aired over GMA's 24 Oras last Sunday, showbiz reporter Aubrey Carampel quoted the songbird as saying that the seven-week pregnancy is a "dream come true."

Carampel also quoted Regine as saying that it was the best gift she received for her birthday on April 22.

"It's very difficult to have a pregnancy, God has blessed us and of course it comes with prayers," her husband singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid said in the same report.

Regine, however, aplogized to their friends and the media because of their late announcement.

"Pasensya na po kayo at hindi po namin agad sinabi hindi naman po nililihim namin (We're sorry that we were not able to tell you right away, we didn't mean to keep it a secret)," she said.

But Ogie told her singer-actress wife that she shouldn't worry about such trivial matters.

"Sabi ko wag mo na isipin yung pag-announce-announce, isipin muna natin ang health mo, yun ang pinakamahalaga (I told her to not think about the announcement. I told her to focus on her health, that's what's important)," he said.

Delicate pregnancy

Regine said the doctor has advised her to stay in bed for a while because she is having a delicate pregnancy.

Carampel said the Kapuso star has recently been fond of burgers, Alcasid, and Kapuso stars Dingdong Dantes, and Richard Gutierrez.

She likewise said that Regine feels like her baby is a going to be a boy. Ogie, however, said it doesn't matter what the gender of their child is.

"Hindi ko ipagkakaila na maganda sana na magkaroon ng (I will not deny that it would be great to have a baby) boy but still as long as the baby is healthy," said the singer-songwriter.
