Mikey Arroyo offers advice to PNoy to boost ratings

MANILA, Philippines - Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo on Monday said President Benigno Aquino III's declining ratings prove he has done nothing to address poverty in the nation.
The son of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Aquino employs too much politicking by blaming the previous administration for everything that ails the current government.
"The dip in Aquino's satisfaction rating to 51% shows the growing disappointment of our people and their realization that no concrete work is being done to address the problem of poverty," he said in a statement.
He added: "They are now starting to realize that PNoy is just a creation of a well-funded media campaign and that his 'daang matuwid' idea of governance is nothing but an empty rhetoric with no solid program to stand on.”
Arroyo said Aquino manifested insensitivity when he purchased a Porsche while people are bearing the brunt of rising prices of basic commodities. The purchase of the luxury sports car definitely contributed to the dip in Aquino's popularity, Arroyo said.
Arroyo offered Aquino some unsolicited advice to boost his ratings.
"However, everything is not yet hopeless for him. He should start working to address the people's concern and tone down his politics of vendetta. Don't always blame past administrations for your woes and start working seriously.”
Aquino's net satisfaction dipped 13 points, from +64 net satisfaction rating in November 2010 to +51 net satisfaction rating in the latest Social Weather Stations survey.
The survey, conducted from March 4-7, 2011, also showed that 48% of Filipinos agree that Aquino set a bad example for buying a Porsche.
Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ramon “Ricky” Carandang said the downward trend in the Social Weather Stations survey is not that big in terms of absolute numbers, noting that Businessworld subtracted the disapproval rating from the approval rating and that showed a huge decline.
Nevertheless, he said it is natural since the euphoria of the election victory last year is starting to wear off. At the same time, the administration considers it as a reminder that the public wants to see genuine reforms.
On the matter of the purchase of a Porsche dragging Aquino’s ratings, Carandang said the Palace think it’s a settled issue.
