MANILA, Philippines - Weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said it expects the country to experience 1-2 storms this April, including one already developing east of the Visayas.
PAGASA weather forecaster Mario Palafox said a low pressure area east of the Visayas has already developed into a tropical depression but is not expected to make landfall anytime soon. The tropical depression, "Amang", was spotted 700 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar as of 2 a.m. Monday.
"Spiral winds could hit Bicol region and eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao, bringing scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms. There will be no storm signals, just alerts, because it is not expected to make landfall," he told radio dzMM.
He said the cloudy weather in Metro Manila is caused by monsoon winds and not the weather disturbance. He added the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy weather with isolated light rains.
Palafox said "Amang" was moving northeast at 15 kilometers per hour and is expected to blow out to the Pacific Ocean.
He said "Amang' will bring strong to gale force winds in the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the Eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas.
The weather bureau said fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
