MANILA, Philippines - The recruiter of slain drug courier Sally Ordinario-Villanueva is now in the hands of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after disappearing for 2 weeks.
Villanueva's recruiter, Tita Cacayan, surrendered to the NBI and is now seeking protective custody after receiving death threats following Villanueva's execution in China last Wednesday.
NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula said Cacayan was brought from Isabela to the NBI headquarters in Manila.
NBI Deputy Director for Intelligence Services Ruel Lasala earlier said they have strong evidence against Cacayan, who is facing a number of criminal charges in Isabela.
"'Yong kay Tita Cacayan nakasampa na po sa DOJ [Department of Justice]....May on-going preliminary investigation. Illegal recruitment, human trafficking at kidnapping charges [ang] naka-file doon. Base sa monitoring, nasa Isabela pa. Nagtatago iyan, takot na balikan ng pamilya ni Sally sa pagkakabitay kay Sally," he said.
The NBI had not been able to locate Cacayan for two weeks now.
She also failed to appear for the Department of Justice's (DOJ) preliminary investigation into the kidnapping case filed against her by Sally's brother, Jason Ordinario.
Aside from Ordinario, 2 other Filipinos were executed via lethal injection in China last Wednesday after being found guilty of drug trafficking.
