Business as usual for Pacquiao even without Roach

MANILA, Philippines -- It’s business as usual for Manny Pacquiao at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles despite the absence of his boxing trainer, Freddie Roach.

Roach will be working the corner of Amir Khan when the British champion takes on Paul McCloskey this weekend.

“Gaya pa rin ng dati, tuloy-tuloy ang ensayo even without Freddie (Just like in the past, training goes on even without Freddie),” the Fighter of the Decade said in Philboxing.com.

Conditioning expert, Alex Ariza, has temporarily taken over Roach’s coaching duties as Pacquiao goes through the most crucial weeks of his preparations against Shane Mosley.

Aiding Ariza in preparing Pacquiao is co-trainer Buboy Fernandez.

“Although pahirap nang pahirap ang training, parang madali rin kasi masaya kaming lahat dito (The training gets harder each day but it looked easy because of our camaraderie)," he said.

Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, said the secret of his good training is happiness within his team.

“There really is no substitute for happiness. Kapag masaya, gumagaan ang trabaho. At pag magaan ang trabaho, nagagawa lahat ng dapat gawin. So far there’s been no major hitches. Everything is going well,” he added.
